CurbGuard Installation Tips |
Prepare
Moldboard
Clean of all foreign
matter from moldboard. Before attaching snowplow blade and
PlowGuard® make sure moldboard surface
is clean of debris or corrosion that might interfere with a tight assembly.
Repair damaged moldboard with Winter® Adapter Blade.
The moldboard is the support for the cutting edge. If a moldboard is short from
unwanted wear, the higher the backward blade torque. This results in bolt and
blade breakage. Many times the wear extends beyond the bolt holes making it difficult
to attach the blade.
Winter® Equipment has designed a Moldboard Adapter Blade to rebuild
a damaged moldboard without the high cost of replacement cost. It is a quick
and easy way to restore a solid mounting surface for your blade. For more information,

Bolts
Use Grade 8 Plow Bolts (They
will not stretch when tightened S.A.E. Specification #J1701 requirements.)
Number 3 head plow bolts (with self-locking nuts)
will greatly reduce the likelihood of blade
chatter & bolt failure.
Refer to S.A.E. Specification #J1701 for proper torque
requirements
-Over-torque will cause heads to "pop-off."
-Under-torque will let the blades move during use, shearing the
bolts.

Nuts
Use S.A.E. Grade 8 Nuts, they are
hardened and will not "mushroom " or flatten in use. Lock Nuts
are preferred because they lock to the bolt, and are always Grade
8. Standard Nuts, if used, should be Grade 8. We recommend you
double nut (no lock washer).

Lock Washers
Lock washers gouge the backside
of the snowplow moldboard because the washer is harder than the
moldboard. These hardened lock washers act as a cutting tool, causing
unwanted "metal shards" on the moldboard where the nut is to seat.
No matter how hard you tighten the nut, these metal shards will
flatten under use, causing the nut to loosen on the bolt and eventually
shear the bolt under use. Use a hardened lock nut to alleviate
this condition. If using standard Grade 8 nuts, double nut.
